Midwest Dairy Association implements programs that help increase sales and demand for dairy products and dairy ingredients and help improve the economic well-being of Midwest dairy producers. Midwest Dairy Association is a non-profit organization that is financed and directed by the dairy producers in nine states – Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and eastern Oklahoma.
The Midwest Dairy Council, the nutrition marketing arm of the Midwest Dairy Association, works with teachers, school nutrition departments and community leaders to develop sound and effective dairy nutrition education programs. Midwest Dairy Council has joined over 50 national organizations to promote healthy school environments. Action for Healthy Kids works to reduce childhood obesity and overweight by improving the nutrition and physical activity in schools.
The Midwest Dairy Council is committed to providing credible, up-to-date research and dairy nutrition information to consumers, health professionals and the media. The Dairy Council has been a leader in nutrition research since 1915.
Dairys importance in building strong bones and maintaining healthy weight has been reaffirmed in the Surgeon Generals Report on Bone Health, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005, and the new MyPyramid. All recommend eating three servings of milk, cheese or yogurt for optimum health.
